Denim Day

Denim Day is observed annually on the last Wednesday of April as a powerful statement against victim blaming and in support of survivors of sexual violence. The campaign began in response to a 1998 Italian court ruling that overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, thereby implying consent. The day has since grown into a global statement of solidarity. By wearing denim, individuals and organizations send a clear message that consent can never be implied based on clothing.

High School Seniors are encouraged to apply for our Denim Day Scholarship. Learn more here.

Supporter Shout Outs

Emplify Health

We are so thankful to Emplify Health for their generous grant in support of New Horizons. This funding helps us begin to bridge the $337,000 gap left by recent VOCA cuts, and allows us to continue our life-saving work.
This support comes at a critical time and ensures that survivors still have access to the care, advocacy, and resources they deserve. We are deeply grateful for Emplify Health’s commitment to our mission and to the well-being of those we serve.

Marcia Newquist – Creative Jewelry by Marcia

Marcia has been donating 10% of her jewelry sales for years. In March, she dropped off a check for $1,350 from her 2024 sales. Thank you, Marcia, for your continued support!

Bob Galaska Memorial Foundation

Staff Spotlight

This month, we’re proud to shine a light o Lexi, our incredible Housing Advocate, whose dedicating and heart are making a real difference in the lives of survivors.
Lexi plays a vital role in our DV Rapid Rehousing Program, walking alongside clients as they navigate the challenges of finding safe, stable housing. Recently, she worked closely with two individuals who had experienced long-term homelessness and faced significant barriers to securing housing. Thanks to Lexi’s relentless advocacy and strong partnerships with community organizations, both clients are now preparing to move into their new homes.

A Community Health Worker at St. Clare Health Mission had this to say:

“Lexi is literally killing it. I’m so proud of her. Her work has literally saved a life.”

We feel incredibly lucky to have Lexi on our team. Her bright attitude, compassion, and teamwork uplift everyone around her – clients, coworkers, and partners alike. Whether she’s championing housing access or jumping in to support her team, Lexi brings light, energy, and unwavering commitment to everything she does!

Thank you, Lexi, for being a shining example of the impact one person can make!
